The end of another academic year gives us the chance to look back at our students' achievements both inside and outside the department—with awards and honors not only from MIT but also from scientific organizations and other institutions.


 

Graduate Students

 

Craig Martin

received an EAPS Award for Excellence in Teaching, in recognition of graduate student teaching assistants in the department who have been selected by faculty and students to have met the highest levels of performance.

 

Chris Parsons

received an EAPS Award for Excellence in Teaching, in recognition of graduate student teaching assistants in the department who have been selected by faculty and students to have met the highest levels of performance.

 

Sam Goldberg

received an EAPS Award for Excellence in Teaching, in recognition of graduate student teaching assistants in the department who have been selected by faculty and students to have met the highest levels of performance.

 

Christine Y. Chen

received the Caltech O.K. Earl Prize Postdoctoral Fellowship, Geological & Planetary Sciences.

 

James Bramante

received an AGU Outstanding Student Presentation Award at the AGU Fall Meeting 2019 in Earth and Planetary Surface Processes.

 

Kalina Grabb

was awarded an ASLO LOREX fellowship to conduct research during an exchange program in Australia

 

Charles Gertler

won the GSA Congressional Science Fellowship, which is part of the AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowships, starting in September.

 

Megan Lickley

received an AGU Outstanding Student Presentation Award at the AGU Fall Meeting 2019 in Atmospheric Sciences and awarded MIT Martin Fellowship, Class 2019-2020.

 

Julia Wilcots

received an AGU Outstanding Student Presentation Award at the AGU Fall Meeting 2019 in the Paleooceanography and Paleoclimatology section.

 

Zac Tobias

was awarded the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate fellowship.

 

Arianna Krinos

was awarded a DOE Computational Science Graduate Fellowship.

 

Mallory Ringham

was awarded an ASLO LOREX fellowship to conduct research during an exchange program in Israel.

 

Katie Halloran

was awarded an NDSEG fellowship this spring.

 

Shari Rohret

was awarded an NSF GRFP.


Undergraduate Student Awards

 

Megan Guenther '20

received an EAPS Award for Excellence in Teaching, in recognition of graduate student teaching assistants in the department who have been selected by faculty and students to have met the highest levels of performance.

 

Sarah Weidman '21

received the EAPS Achievement Award, in recognition of a junior from across the EAPS disciplines who has distinguished themselves through a combination of high GPA, focused course work, and leadership within the department. She also was honored as an MIT 2020 Burchard Scholar.

 

Kyle Morgenstein '20

received the Christopher Goetze Prize for Undergraduate Research, in recognition of innovative experimental design, care in data collection, and sensitive application of results to research problems.

 

Ruth Tweedy ’20

joined the Xi Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa and received the 2020 Royal Society of Chemistry Certificate of Excellence. She also received the W.O Crosby Award for Sustained Excellence, in recognition of achievement, both academic and intellectual, as well as general contributions to the EAPS Department. She was also awarded the MIT Frederick Gardiner Fasset Jr. Award.

 

Lily Zhang '22

received a 2020 Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship from NOAA.

 

Charlotte Minsky ’20

was awarded a Gates Cambridge fellowship, joined the Xi Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, and received the MIT Karl Taylor Compton Prize, in recognition of excellent achievements in citizenship and devotion to the welfare of MIT.

 

Jade Fischer '21

was honored as an MIT 2020 Burchard Scholar and as an Art Scholar, for outstanding work in the social sciences, arts, and humanities.

Alumni Mentions

 

Brian Green PhD '18 and Tom Beucler PhD '19

were awarded the 2018-2019 Rossby Prize for Best Doctoral Dissertation in the EAPS Program in Atmospheres, Oceans and Climate.
