Faculty & Senior Investigator Awards

	Kristin Bergmann Assistant Professor Was appointed Victor P. Starr Career Development Assistant Professor.
	Tanja Bosak Associate Professor Was honored with a 2016 Geological Society of America (GSA) Geobiology and Geomicrobiology Division award. READ MORE
	Samuel Bowring Robert R. Shrock Professor of Geology Received the 2016 Walter H. Bucher Medal of the American Geophysical Union (AGU). READ MORE
	Kerry Emanuel Cecil & Ida Green Professor of Atmospheric Science \| Co-Director of the Lorenz Center Was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. READ MORE
	Dara Entekhabi Bacardi and Stockholm Water Foundations Professor Was elected to the National Academy of Engineering. READ MORE
	Raffaele Ferrari Professor of Oceanography \| Chair of the Program in Atmospheres, Oceans and Climate Was appointed the Cecil and Ida Green Professor in Earth and Planetary Sciences. Ferrari also received the 2016 Robert L. and Bettie P. Cody Award in Ocean Sciences. READ MORE

	Greg Fournier Assistant Professor Was appointed Cecil and Ida Green Career Development Assistant Professor. Fournier also received MIT's 2017 Charles E. Reed Faculty Initiatives Fund Award for work studying "The Evolution of a-Carboxysomes and Earth’s Early Atmosphere.
	Timothy Grove Professor of Geology \| EAPS Associate Department Head Was appointed Robert R. Shrock Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences.
	David McGee Kerr-Mcgee Career Development Assistant Professor Was promoted to associate professor (effective July 2017). READ MORE
	Noelle Selin Associate Professor \| Associate Director, MIT Technology and Policy Program Was awarded tenure (effective July 2017). READ MORE
	Susan Solomon Lee and Geraldine Martin Professor of Environmental Studies In 2016 Solomon led the team that reported the first signs of healing in the Antarctic Ozone Layer. Not surprisingly this work, besides its welcome news, was a top pick for the top stories lists at Science News and Discover Magazine: Science News 9/10 top 10 stories of 2016, Discover Magazine 14/100 of top 100 stories for 2016. She was also awarded the 2017 National Academy of Sciences, Arthur L. Day Prize and Lectureship, named an honorary Fellow of the UK's Royal Meteorological Society, and was appointed the Lee and Geraldine Martin Professor of Environmental Studies at MIT. READ MORE
	Maria Zuber E. A. Griswold Professor of Geophysics \| Vice President for Research, MIT Was honored with the 2017 Eugene Shoemaker Distinguished Scientist Medal of the SSERVI (formerly the NASA Lunar Science Institute). READ MORE

	William Frank Postdoctoral Fellow in the Prieto Group Received the AGU’s 2016 Editors’ Citation for Excellence in Refereeing at Geophysical Research Letters and Journal of Geophysical Research - Solid Earth. READ MORE
	Ainara Sistiago Postdoctoral Fellow in the Summons Group Received the Marie Curie Award of the European Commission.

Graduate Student Awards

	Tristan Abbott Was awarded honorable mention in the 2017 NSF GRFP.
	Genevieve Brett Was awarded a "Red Sock" Communications Award for communications at SIAM DS17 (Dynamical Systems, 2017) for her poster about chaotic advection in the Alboran Sea in partnership with Larry Pratt and Irina Rypine, WHOI.
	Marjorie Cantine Was awarded a 2017 MIT Graduate Women of Excellence. She was also the recipent of a 2017 National Defense Science and Engineering (NDSEG) Fellowship. READ MORE
