Earth System Initiative (ESI)
Humankind faces significant challenges in its efforts to ensure a
sustainable future for our planet. The debates about the choices we
make are only meaningful if they are grounded on reliable scientific
data.
The Earth System Initiative (ESI) works to develop this data, fostering
collaborations and interdisciplinary research among scientists and
engineers in an effort to understand the nature of interactions among
physical, chemical, and biological processes on Earth. Our work is
organized around the themes of system characterization, system organization,
evolutionary processes, and human impacts. Our goal is to help inform
society’s perceptions and understanding of our planet’s
future and our role in its evolution.
