Guest Alumna Speaker:
Lisa Song, EAPS (B.S. '08) & Science Writing (M.S. '09)

EAPS is delighted to welcome back alumna Lisa Song. Song, is the recent joint winner of a Pulitzer Prize for her involvement in a series of stories for the blog InsideClimate News on the poor regulation of oil pipelines.

Together with fellow I.C.N. journalists Elizabeth McGowan and David Hasemyer, the trio took top honors in the national reporting category for their work on "The Dilbit Disaster: Inside the Biggest Oil Spill You've Never Heard Of," a project that began with a seven-month investigation into the million-gallon spill of Canadian tar sands oil into the Kalamazoo River in 2010. It broadened into an examination of national pipeline safety issues, and how unprepared the nation is for the impending flood of imports of a more corrosive and more dangerous form of oil.

Come hear Song as she shares her journey from undergraduate major in EAPS to award-winning science journalist.

Song's talk will be followed by the presentation of this year's student awards

  • Goetze Prize for Undergraduate Research
  • W. O. Crosby Award for Sustained Excellence
  • Carl-Gustaf Rossby Award and
  • Graduate Student Teaching Prizes.

Open to all members of the EAPS community
